What to wear horse back riding ?

I'm going horseback riding for my first time tomorrow. Now it's just riding(not a lesson) and it's going to be quite hot and I don't know what to wear. Can I wear longer denim Bermuda shorts and a tank top?? What about shoes since I don't own boots for riding what should I wear??????? please help I am at a loss
