That pan should have held half the batter. I think your oven was too hot, or you overcooked the cake. You should remove the cake after cooling for 10 to 15 minutes. If you wait too long it sticks to the pan. Go around the edges gently with a butter knife to loosen the edges and then flip out the cake onto your hand. Place it on a rack. Did you put parchment paper on the bottom? That really would have helped release the cake.
