Is horseback ridding in the jungle safe?

My family vacationed in PV when I was 15 and did this. You know, booked through the hotel. my fiancee and I are planning a honeymoon and I would love to do this again. With all of the recent violence, have there been any recent problems with tourist doing these outings? If not, got any tips to have a good time?
